To expound upon our fall post from the other day, today we are taking a further look into the regal and always classic tartan. Like I said before, nothing evokes the sophistication of a crisp autumn day, golden leaves crunching underfoot oxfords and knee highs, strolling the wet sidewalk up to your first day of university in Scotland (or merry old England) like tartan does. The beauty of this pattern is that it is completely versatile and always a timeless staple whether you use it in an all white modern loft or a traditional wood paneled study it evolves with its surroundings and in any scenario becomes a stunningly welcomed and cozy addition. Use it as wallpaper, carpet, chair covering, or a headboard for lasting permanence or as an accent pillow, wooly throw, a lampshade, or framed artwork for seasonal decor that is easily switched out. Looking for ways to keep your tartan fresh and modern? Don't be afraid to mix patterns...mix tartans together playing with color and scale (I promise you absolutely cannot go wrong here)...add in a dash of black and white polka dot or a hint of leopard (as in upscale luxurious leopard NOT cheezy girl's college dorm decor leopard) for an ecclectic and unexpectedly stylish pop. Tartan also always looks amazing and modern against a crisp white background allowing the colors to boldly pop. Other ways to juge up your tartan? Add in equestrian themed accents such as greyhound statues and horse bit frames, lots of buttery leather accents, faux fur pillows, stately monograms, and fresh heady flowers.
